Tregaron half marathon

The day after and the legs feeling gd, a little cautious maybe yesterday but made sure I kept a solid pace over the course. Enjoyed every moment which is very unlike me.

1st time at this event which i was looking forward to as my last half marathon was 2005 Cardiff half which was 1h 35min and before i started this running game. Rain and wind was forcasted but it turned out an ok run with only light rain and wind not affecting the runners to badly.

Started steady with a Trots runner and happily helped each other to pick off the runners in front, great pace which had us catch the to two #timdic runners who have been on top of their game. Happy to stay with them at mile 8 and see how things turn out. We reached the Cors caron section which was 3 miles of dead straight railway path, a long way home. Feeling very good with only the calfs starting to seaze up but not enough to stop the pace. Took a gel at 9miles and picked up the pace a little to try and catch Geth who had legthened his stride to pull away.

We hit the Tarmac of the main road and was still feeling good, then with a mile to go I couldn't up my speed and got picked to 2 places to the finish. Very happy with the run and very enjoyable competition from the boys.

Crymych Team pursuit 14

A Time trial team event in Pembrokeshire which is always an interesting way of racing. With Sarn Helen being on the top for the previous years there's always pressure of delivering the trophy back to the leisure centre of Lampeter. We arrived with a strong team and confident of a good run and performance, even with the Peugeot cutting out on the way which led us to a longer warm up than anticipated.

Headed off 22 minutes past 11.00am which had me infield and with plenty of runners to keep me busy. Flat out start down the hill it wasnt until 2miles that i hit the flats and felt the pace of the start. Slowly gathered the steam back for the hills finished strong with a huge tailwind to the finish.

Sorting out the results post race we gathered that we had a gd set of times and we should easily have made it another trophy. But didnt quite go to plan, we got called out to second place, we just stood there expecting someone to question the result. Anyhow we collected the trophy, milk saucer, which was very poor to the previous years prize of Kit bags and Training coats.

Results out it quickly came apparent that a runner from the winning team was given a 10min bonus time which had given Pembs runners a 1 min win.

All sorted we came out on top with Myself, Jack, Llew, Carwyn and Glyn becoming winners by 9 minutes and the fastest time ever recorded by any team. I came out as fastest of the day in 40.25, Jack 2nd in 41.10 and Pembs 3rd in 41.10.

Top day, Llew's peugeot having to be Towed home, bad night.

Tarren Hendre 14

First fell Race of the year and excited to try out the New Inov-8  x talon 190's on the fells of meirionydd. Rough day with horizontal rain and gale winds had the organisers call the route short with the peak of Tarren Hendre being cut off due to the wind and lack of marshalls to stand on the top, the latter probably the real reason.

Arrived with Felipe and Simon, one international athlete and the other new to the hills. We signed up to the news of the course change. Got changed and warmed up for 20 minutes, arriving back 5min before the race start ready and warm for a uphill blast.

Amazing how everyone just appear, from 20 runners it shot up to 65 by 12.00pm and some top runners in the mix.

Steep climb off the fire road it climbed steep up a single track which quickly spread the field. I was positioned 4th and being seriously held up so jumped to 3rd over some brambles and chased down Eryri in 2nd.
Caught up to 2nd and hit another fire road which would slowly rise making it a fast and painfull climb following the first vertical single track. Stuck to Eryri heels and Felipe in the distance on his own. We reached the last of the rise and hit the downhill, hoping to just hold on to 3rd i set a tempo. With a gd winter of training it appears my pace has increased as I caught 2nd and past, quickly making a distance as we continued on the fire road, then from nowhere we turned down what looked like a path, knee deep in mud. Somehow kept a gd tempo with the route changing conditions, offering stone, mud, trees and awsome single track downhill. Kept the pace strong until the final meters and finished in 39m 50. 2min down on Winner Felipe and 30sec on 3rd place. Great result with more to follow if I can sort out my racing calender for the year.
